PhotoReading: Day 1

20May07

I started to go through the PhotoReading course yesterday. I got through discs 1 and 2 and so far all I have to say is… wow. There’s a 5 minute test in the beginning, and then again at the end of disc 2. In the first test I read normally through 4 pages and had the following to say (you’re supposed to comment on your thoughts/feelings)

Reading and trying to process the information at the same time is difficult. I tend to be reading, but thinking about something I just read and what it means and end up missing something. Then I have to go back and re-read what I missed, usually to find out it didn’t matter anyway. I actually couldn’t tell you what it was that I just read, or what the concepts were. That’s probably because either I didn’t get through enough of it, or I just haven’t processed it all yet, not sure which.

After going through the first 2 discs and applying the concepts I learned and had briefly practiced I went through another 5 minute test. Here’s what I had to say…

It feels like I know the core concepts of what I just went through. I am much more relaxed than after reading the first test, and I don’t feel like I missed any important information. I could explain what it is that I read about to someone if need be, or I could write down a brief synopsis of what it was I read. Even if I didn’t remember part of it, I know where to go back to so I can get more information, even without highlighting.

That only begins to explain the difference I felt. Here’s the kicker too, in that first test I got through 4 pages. In the second test I went through 18 pages! Not only that, none of this includes the actual step of “PhotoReading,” this is just using the other parts of the system to increase your reading speed and teach a new style of reading.

I probably won’t be going through disc 3 today, we have a lot of other things to do around the house. I will come back and write up an overview of the system itself and what’s included, in addition to my experiences posted here.
