Me:
My name is Michael. I’m in my mid-twenties living in the Boston area.
My Job:
I work at CitySquares.com as a Web Developer (one of two). The commute is just over an hour, door to door, each way.
My Life:
Too easy. I breezed through grade school, then high school, then college. I applied to a total of one college, and got in. I applied to a total of one job when leaving college, got it. Stayed there for 3.5 years where I nearly doubled my starting salary. Then I left that job for a job in the city and another big raise. I met a beautiful woman at my first job, married her, and now have a son. Life is great, right?
Wrong.
Counting the commute I work from 7:00 to 6:00. Counting the wasted morning because all I do in the morning is get ready for work it’s 6:00 to 6:00. That’s a full half of my day.
Take away another 7 hours for sleep and I’m left with 5 hours.
Five hours? Really? Is that it? I’m working 12 hours to have 5 to do with what I want?
That’s just wrong. I want life to be a challenge. I want life to be full of enjoyment and wonder.
Life should be fun. You should end every day totally exhausted from the shear joy of living that day.
Five years. I’ve heard that anyone can change their life in five years.
This is me doing it.
